After 2.5 years of saving money to quit my career and set off on a year of unique experiences I started the Arizona Trail on March 10, 2017. My hiking partner and I completed it on May 5, 2017 which even included nearly a week off at home to avoid the snow.
2017 turned out more obstacles than I would have ever imagined. December 8m 2017 I held my Dad's hand as he took his last breath. With money in the bank, an empty feeling in my heart and wanting to run away from reality, I hit the Arizona Trail solo. Additional obstacles stood in my way but I finished.
Hayduke Trail 2020. On April 4th, 2020 my hiking partner and I got off trail in Escalante after about 350 miles. The national parks had closed their doors and we were denied grocery services, leaving us in a tough spot.
Hayduke Trail 2021. I had my permits to complete the trail solo but 10 days before I was set to hit the trail I tore my calf and sidelined.
Tahoe Rim Trail 2022. A last minute opportunity to join a friend on their hike was great but they had a recent injury that had yet to heal and we only completed about 20 miles of the trail.
Colorado Trail 2022. I hit the trail on August 18, 2022 solo. Due to a death in the family I elected to get off trail at mile 302.9.
It's tough looking at my failures this way.
